AC-DC Design Engineer - Apple, Austin, TX
This is an excellent opportunity to be on the forefront of new power management designs and technologies for a company that consistently delivers cutting-edge innovation to industry. In this position, you will pride yourself in developing innovative designs which are used by millions of people around the Globe. This position primarily involves high-density offline power supply development for Apple's next generation Macintosh platforms spanning from notebook computers and desktop computers to servers and standalone displays.
◾Candidate must have hands-on experience with power supply design and possess deep knowledge of offline conversion topologies including PFC, resonant converters, LLC and analog/digital controls loops.
◾Candidate must be intimately familiar with power supply safety and environmental certifications, offline controllers, components, magnetic design, power supply layout and state-of the art techniques for efficiency optimizations including no load/light load efficiency techniques.
◾Strong analytical/problem solving skills and ability to guide critical decisions.
◾Must possess good understanding of thermals, mechanical and packaging challenges. Must also possess knowledge of high volume manufacturing technologies and production variances.
◾Must be highly motivated, a self-starter with innovation, and have high integrity and the ability to pay attention to details.
◾Ability to work well with cross-functional teams is extremely important.
◾Proven track record of working in fast-paced innovative work environment.
◾Ideal candidate has worked in the computer industry and/or for a power supply module company.
◾Must be willing to travel overseas periodically as needed.
As an AC-DC Power Supply Design Engineer you will be driving innovative product design and execution from concept investigation and design analysis to successful production execution; that includes - design analysis, modeling & simulations, schematic/BOM generation, PCB layout, DFM, prototype developments, tests & validations, qualification, safety/REL certifications and taking product to production using large volume manufacturing OEMs. The candidate must be hands-on power supply circuit designer and be able to design power supplies without being dependent upon external power supply vendors. You will also: Participate in core architecture investigation while working closely with Power architect; Select best design option for power metric performance optimization including but not limited to efficiency, power density, cost, reduced carbon foot print and scalability. Lead Power supply design concept definition in collaboration with cross-functional team and power supply module vendors in some cases. Provide design simulation, calculations and analytical models for prediction of design concept outcome Provide design risk assessments, mitigation plans, development lessons learned and proof of concepts Provide design Schematic and BOM; Work with layout team for power supply layouts. Conduct design and layout reviews with cross-functional teams. Adhere to robust design methodologies for successful project execution. Provide prototypes and test and validation results, document multi-dimensional activities. Hands-on work in lab is must. Keep abreast of state-of-the art technologies and perform competitive bench-marking for each project. Provide technical support for production issues debug and resolutions. Conduct power supply seminars and training for cross-functional teams. Spear-head innovation thru exemplary behavior and team work.
